Bloomwell therapists provides online mental health care to individuals 13 years and older. Our expert providers can help with anxiety, depression, and many other common concerns. We offer personalized psychiatry, clinically-proven therapy, and teen care.

Please note: Our providers do not prescribe controlled substances. Here is a list of medications we do prescribe.

  • Online care is not a good fit for people with certain conditions or situations. These can include:
  • Ongoing, high-risk self-harm behavior
  • Schizophrenia or any symptoms of psychosis
  • Some cases of bipolar disorder I or acute mania
  • Severe substance use
  • Medically unstable eating disorders
  • Dementia
  • Kidney or liver disease, long QT syndrome, seizures, or cardiac arrhythmias (restricted for medication treatment only)

If any of these describe a condition you’re experiencing, it’s best for you to be seen in person by a primary care provider who can help you find the treatment that’s right for you.

We believe (and evidence shows) that comprehensive care using an interdisciplinary multi-provider approach leads to the best outcomes in the treatment of mental health conditions.

There are three primary treatment angles for mental health conditions: therapy, psychiatry (including medication management), and self-care. At Bloomwell, we provide therapy and self-care programs as part of our comprehensive care plans, but we do not offer psychiatry services.

Therapy

Bloomwell provides convenient, affordable, and private therapy through weekly video sessions and unlimited messaging with a licensed therapist. Additionally, you will have access to evidence-based audio lessons and practice exercises that equip you with the skills needed to feel better.

Psychiatry

While we do not offer psychiatry services, we recommend obtaining a referral from your primary care provider (PCP). Your PCP can perform a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and suggest a personalized treatment plan, which may include psychiatric medication. They will then monitor your care and adjust treatment as necessary to ensure you achieve the best outcomes. Medication will only be prescribed if it is deemed a safe, effective, and appropriate treatment option for you.

Self-Care

All Bloomwell members can access our free Self-Care program. The Bloomwell Self-Care program helps build skills and resilience, delivering improvements that complement therapy and any psychiatric treatment you may be receiving elsewhere.

Diagnosing depression and anxiety involves comparing a person's symptoms to the established criteria from the American Psychiatric Association, without needing blood tests or physical exams. This allows for effective diagnosis and treatment without the necessity of in-person visits.

Our providers can assess your symptoms, health history, and other relevant factors remotely, then consult with you to confirm their diagnosis and discuss treatment options. This online approach enables more frequent and effective communication, allowing providers to closely monitor your progress over time. This is especially important when managing antidepressant medications, as adjustments may be needed based on your individual response.

However, remote care might not be suitable for everyone. Some individuals, particularly those with specific psychiatric diagnoses or chronic medical conditions like liver disease, kidney disease, seizures, or certain cardiac arrhythmias, may benefit more from in-person care.

Yes, of course. If your provider is not the right fit or you are unsatisfied, reach out to our Member Support Team from your account at any time.

All of our providers are handpicked for their ability to provide best-in-class mental health care. To ensure the highest quality of care, every provider in our network undergoes a rigorous hiring and vetting process. You can learn more about the process here.

Doula Services for Birthing Parents

Most, but not all of our clients have a partner supporting them throughout this process. Our clients find that their partner is more involved in the process when they have a Doula there to guide them on how to best provide support. It is difficult for partners and even family and friends to know how to help us during this time. They can take the classes and read the books but it is hard for them to retain all that information. When we are in labour we also don’t seem to listen to our partners suggestions as readily as a Doula who we are not as emotionally attached to.

There are many tools available to a labouring mom and the epidural is one of them. Your doula team supports all birthing options and make sure you have all the information you need to decide what feels right to you at the time. Before an epidural there are sensations that require focus to work through. Your doula helps to keep you comfortable with providing comfort measures such as breathing, positions, massage and other tools until an epidural is available to you. An epidural reduces some sensations in labour but not always all, your doula aids in your comfort and keeping you as calm as possible throughout your birth process.

Some people believe that you only hire a Doula if you are having a vaginal birth. The reality is that babies are born in many different ways and there is no right or wrong way to go through this process. In the event of a scheduled cesarean section we help you plan for the birth by knowing your options and what to do if you go into spontaneous labour before your scheduled date. Your doula is there the day of the c-section to make sure things run smoothly and help with bonding and baby’s first feed after delivery. When you get home from the hospital we are there to help you understand what to expect with your recovery as well as learning about taking care of your baby.

Every birth process is unique and therefore having the experience of a Doula to guide you allows you to go through this journey with more ease. You will have questions about different sensations you are feeling and you can contact your Doula at any time to gain reassurance.

As an experienced parent we are able to discuss your previous experience to find out the things that you liked about your experience and what you would like to change this time. It is helpful for experienced parents to have their doula to contact when cramping starts in order to decide the best time to arrange child care and head to the hospital.

Many experienced parents talk about how the second and subsequent births can go faster than the first experience. This is because the uterine muscle has done this before and therefore can travel through the stages at a greater speed. Since things can move quickly there is not always time to receive an epidural and therefore it is important to have someone in the room who can help you focus on getting through the contractions. During this time the medical staff is focused on getting ready for the birth. It is difficult for partners during this time as well since they are not always sure what to do to help you or if things are normal.

Postpartum Doula Support

We support all feeding methods and focus on finding out what your desires are and adjust our support and guidance accordingly.

Your Doula will sleep in the same area as your baby and come to get you when baby wakes up. During feedings your Doula can answer your feeding questions and help to make each session efficient. She will also grab you a drink and snack, burp and change baby and then soothe baby back to sleep. This allows you to go straight back to sleep and maximize the time in between feedings to get quality rest.

The nice thing about hiring a Doula is that you don’t have to figure out what the Doula will do. With our experience we are well versed in anticipating your needs. We will ask you questions when we arrive and then help come up with a plan to expand your support for that shift. Things change as your baby grows so we continue to give you ideas on how to best use your hours of support.

Family and friends are an amazing support after you have had a baby. The challenge is that many of them do not have the same experience or unbiased support that a Doula can provide. Your Doula is your guide to find “your” way through this journey. Friends and family tend to share many of their opinions and may feel that the way they did things are the right way. One of the biggest things we hear from our clients is that the support that they received from their Doulas allowed them to better communicate their needs to their family and found them a lot more helpful as a result.

One of the biggest differences between a night nurse and a Postpartum Doula is that the focus with a night nurse is to take care of the baby whereas the focus with a Postpartum Doula is to take care of the family. We are also focused on showing you many tricks and tools that you can use when your Doula is not with you. We are the on the job trainers for this journey of parenthood. Our job is to build your confidence to a point where we have worked ourselves out of the job.

During daytime hours of 8 AM-8 PM, we provide a minimum shift of 4 hours. Overnight shifts are a minimum of 8 hours and tend to be from 10pm-6am or 11pm-7am. Many of our clients prefer longer support shifts, as there is no maximum restrictions, we can create a timing that works best for your family.

Nighttime Newborn Support

Overnight support shifts are a minimum of 8 hours, however can be longer when availability allows. Typically this is scheduled from 10 PM – 6 AM, so that our parents are able to get as much sleep as possible while the doula is providing your support.

That all depends on when you secure a Bloomwell Caregivers support.

For clients that secure support in their pregnancy, you will have access to a postpartum planning call a few weeks prior to your due date. These sessions help the transition from the hospital to home a breeze. As soon as you go into labour you send as email to your Care Coordinator who is your point person until you are discharged from the hospital. During this time we will be in touch with our team and have them ready for whenever you get home.

For clients that find us once baby has arrived, you will be in direct contact with our Intake Coordinator for availability and put together a rolling schedule with how best we can support you.

We pride ourselves on providing customized care to the new parents we work with, and as such take a personalized approach to best support your specific situation.

Your Doula comes prepared to be awake throughout the duration of her shift however your Doula sleeps whenever you and baby are sleeping. Sleeping accommodations are required for booking your overnight Doula. This can be as simple as a couch for your doula and bassinet for baby.

At night our focus is on protecting sleep cycles for the parents we work with, and helping your new baby optimize their sleep, feeds, and newborn care. Of course babies continue to wake frequently and your doula is your expert guide for support and education with nighttime parenting. This can include support for new parents with learning this whole new world, and caring support for middle of the night wake ups for new parents too!

As long as you need and want support to help your family fill your sleep tank, we are here for you. The duration of doula care can vary based on your goals, your baby's personality, and how your recovery and transition are going postpartum. There is no cut-off period for clients regularly using doula support.

The first 4-6 weeks are often the most intense transition for new parents. Most parents feel very tired at this stage due to the disrupted sleep from the hospital stay, which continues at home as they learn to care for their newborn. Babies also find this period exhausting as they adapt to feeding, breathing, and regulating their own systems. Providing overnight care during this critical time allows parents to focus on rest and recovery. It also offers valuable information and hands-on training with your new baby. Additionally, we can give you a "heads up" on what to expect in the coming days and help establish some routines.
